Welcome to Statistics

Course Description

This course is divided into four quarters. The first quarter emphasizes the principles of intermediate algebra necessary to be successful in statistics. The second through fourth quarters will answer the question, "What is statistics?" Topics include organizing data, data distribution, measures of central tendency, probability, sampling, normal distribution, central limit theorem, linear regression, and hypothesis testing. A TI-83 calculator or better is necessary for this course.

Course Culmination

Students will present recommendations based on a study that they have conducted throughout the first, second and third quarters.

Most students find the study of Statistics to be very different from any other type of mathematics. It tends to be more tangible and useful. To that end, all students will be required to complete the project/study described above in an effort to learn and demonstrate the usefulness of statistics. As each phase of the project is assigned, you will find descriptions of these phases below.

Phase 1:
Study Design
Phase 2:
Data Collection

Phase 3:
Data Illustration

Phase 4:
Data Analysis
Phase 5:
Conclusions
